Revolutionary, politician and political theorist, Lenin was the leader of the 1917 Russian Revolution. He masterminded the Bolshevik revolution and became the first leader of the Soviet Union. The man who ousted the Tsar changed, not only the backwards and feudal Russia of then, but was also the inspiration for countless other revolutions and liberation movements around the world. After working unflinchingly for the revolution for 30 years to the detriment of his health, and having survived two assassination attempts, Lenin suffered a series of strokes and retired from politics. He died shortly thereafter and was embalmed. His body lies in the Lenin Mausoleum on exhibition for all to see.
