The Cold War was a period of absolutely mind-bending experiments, but perhaps the most curious of all was the dolphin speech experiment. NASA sponsored an experiment to see if it was possible for dolphins to learn to speak, given their inherent intelligence. However, as time went on, the experiment became stranger. Rather than going home in the evenings, Margaret Howe Lovatt, decided to live in the home with the dolphin. The scientists filled the home with water so the creature could move freely. They tried more and more experiments to entice the creature to communicate, giving it lessons, speaking to it, and at one point, even sexually pleasuring the creature. The experiment was a failure, however, as the dolphin never gave any signs of communication.
