Though this phenomenon is not considered destructive, at least not for humans, it is strange in the extreme. Roman Naturalist Pliny The Elder documented storms of frogs and fish in the first Century AD. Other reports of the phenomenon followed in antiquity. Scientists attribute the phenomenon to tornadoes and waterspouts, though there are sceptics. One of the most recent occurrences was in Lynn Haven, Florida, where residents reported crabs falling from the sky on Feb. 11, 2013. This too was chalked up to a nearby waterspout.
